Fascinating writeup comparing the relative “importance” (as judged by Google) of traditional vs. citizen media.
I really like the distinction that the author makes between traditional media and the NY Times. The truly interesting question is not whether the NY Times can compete with blogs, but can paid journalists compared with more grass roots, renegade, even maverick journalists.
The author doesn’t address any sort of artificial bump that Google might give blogs; I don’t know if they do give any bumps, but I’ve heard the rumor that they do.
Anyway, very interesting and worth a read.
